The “Strategic Sleep” Rule

Here is the brutal truth about AFCON 2025: You should not choose your hotel based on how pretty the pool is. You must choose it based on traffic flow.
Moroccan cities are split into two zones:
- The Medina (Old City): Beautiful, car-free, chaotic. Bad for quick match exits.
- The Ville Nouvelle (New City): Modern, grid-roads, accessible by taxi. Good for logistics.
If you have tickets for a 9:00 PM match, stay in the Ville Nouvelle. If you are just here for the vibes, stay in the Medina.
1. Casablanca: The Business Hub
Stadium: Stade Mohammed V (District: Maârif)
Option A: Maârif (The “In the Action” Zone)

- Why: You can walk to the stadium. No taxi needed.
- Vibe: Dense, noisy, packed with cafes and shops.
- Risk: It is gridlock on match days. Taxis will refuse to enter.
- Stay: Hotel Kenzi Tower (High-end) or Ibis Casablanca City Center (Budget, near the port/train).
Option B: Ain Diab (The “Vacation” Zone)
- Why: Ocean views and nightlife. This is the “Corniche.”
- Vibe: Miami style. Clubs, beach bars, and luxury hotels.
- Logistics: You need the Tramway (T1) to get to the stadium, but the ride is scenic.
- Stay: Four Seasons (Luxury) or Club Val d’Anfa.
Pro Tip: Avoid the “Old Medina” in Casablanca. It is small and not as tourist-friendly as Marrakech. Stick to the modern city.
2. Rabat: The Strategic Capital
Stadium: Prince Moulay Abdellah (District: Outskirts/Agdal)
The Only Choice: Agdal
- Why: Agdal is the transport heart of Rabat. It has the High-Speed Train Station (Gare Agdal) which connects you to Casablanca (50 mins) and Tangier (1h 20m).
- Stadium Access: It is the closest district to the stadium. A blue taxi costs 20 MAD.
- Stay: Onomo Hotel Rabat Terminus (Right at the station) or Sofitel Jardin des Roses.
Avoid: The Kasbah of the Udayas (unless you don’t mind walking uphill with luggage).
3. Marrakech: The Tourist Trap (In a Good Way)
Stadium: Grand Stade de Marrakech (Location: 11km outside city)
Option A: Hivernage (The “VIP” Zone)
- Why: Wide roads, luxury hotels, and nightclubs. Easy for private drivers to pick you up.
- Vibe: Glamorous.
- Stay: Mövenpick Mansour Eddahbi or Savoy Le Grand Hotel.
Option B: The Medina (The Riad Experience)

- Why: It’s magical. Courtyards, fountains, tiles.
- The Warning: Taxis cannot drive to your door. You must walk your luggage through crowded alleys. Do not stay here if you have a late-night match—getting lost in the dark souk is stressful.

- Stay: Look for Riads near “Jemaa el-Fnaa” or “Dar El Bacha” (easy taxi drop-off points).
4. Tangier: The Northern Gateway
Stadium: Ibn Batouta (Location: Near Airport)
Option A: Malabata (The Bay)
- Why: Beachfront hotels with views of Spain. Wide boulevards make traffic manageable.
- Stay: Hilton Tangier City Center (attached to the train station—huge plus) or Royal Tulip.
Option B: The Kasbah
- Why: incredible history and views.
- Risk: Steep hills and narrow streets.
5. Agadir: The Beach Resort
Stadium: Adrar Stadium (Location: Inland)
The “Tourist Zone” (Secteur Touristique)
- Why: Agadir is unique; the beach zone is separated from the residential city. 90% of hotels are here.
- Logistics: You must take a taxi/shuttle to the stadium (20 mins inland).
- Stay: Iberostar Founty Beach or Riu Palace.
6. Fes: The Spiritual Maze
Stadium: Complexe Sportif de Fès (Location: Outskirts)
The “Ville Nouvelle” Rule
- Why: The Fes Medina is the largest car-free urban zone in the world. It is a maze. If you stay deep inside, you will need a guide to find your way out.
- Recommendation: Stay in the Ville Nouvelle (French Quarter) for easy train/stadium access, or at a hotel on the perimeter of the Medina (e.g., near Blue Gate/Bab Boujloud).
- Stay: Hotel Sahrai (Luxury on a hill) or Barceló Fès Medina.
